Macmillan Nigeria Publishers Limited has apologised to Muslims over the protest by the Association of Model Islamic Schools Nigeria (AMIS) on what they referred to as "misrepresentation of Islam" as contained in one of the company's publications.
The Marketing Controller, Northern Operations, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello tendered the apology when he visited Media Trust headquarters yesterday in Abuja.
He expressed regret over the publication saying the error was from the author of the book in reference. He said the author also apologised when his attention was called to it
"The error is not only on Islam that it was founded by Prophet Muhammad, but also on Christianity where Christianity was also described as founded by Jesus Christ, when it is known that the two religions were not founded by them. You hardly find a perfect book without error, we have noted this error and we want to assure our customers and the general public that the error would be edited and corrected in the next publication.
"We apologise to the Muslims, Christians and any other people that might have been offended. It should be observed that the section where the error is noticed was not particularly about one religion but about world religions and words pertaining to them," Bello said.
He said that the editorial board and others saddled with vetting publications would not have allowed the error to pass if they had noticed it, adding, "We have a special forum where things like these are discussed and mistakes and other observations were raised by participants on our activities to correct them and render better services".
