The social dimension of fasting

The subject of food and drink in the history of the Muslim nation is ancient, its origins are derived from the Qur'an verses and prophetic hadiths, and the books of jurisprudence, chips, sermons, sermons, aids and morals set aside The subjects for food and drink, forbidding taboos and order the following Islamic morals.

Today, food and drink in the lives of most people has become an evil, extravagant, wasteful, delicious . The food and beverage industry wastes money, open tables are set up, in homes and restaurants, and races are being held for lavish parties and events.

The public has slipped into the disadvantages of the blind imitation of the materialistic and luxurious nations, and the lives of many have been costly and extravagant in their banqueting's, holidays and lives.

Our holidays have become expensive manifestations and our Ramadan sits every year as a season of luxury and luxury, instead of being worship and late- prayer.

Food has become a terrible threat, and warnings of a dangerous future have been raised and social, economic and food security and rationalization of spending and consumption.

Man is a living being, performing the important functions of worshipping Allah, then reconstructing the earth and establishing the principles of justice and goodness. This makes him need food, in order to grow, live, move, work and to need water, as man cannot survive for long without water.

The human being's response to the instinct for food and drink is innate. In addition, maintaining a varied and balanced nutritional strength with mediation and moderation gives a strong body, lasting health and a blessed and long life.

It is not enough for a person to eat one species, and basic needs such as water, sugars, proteins, greases, fats, vitamins and some mineral elements must be met.

If a person eats what fills his hunger and drinks what he thirsts for, this is required by reason, and a desired sharia to him, because of the self-preservation and maintenance of the senses.

Muhyiddin Mesto says in his book "Food and Drink between Moderation and Extravagance:. If the supposition is sick and dead, deprivation sickens the soul and dissipates from worship, but moderation activates the soul and manifests its spirituality. Moderation mediates between the insinuation and the extravagance, and between cheapness and excessive spending on food and drink.

The Prophet Mohammed (prayer and peace be upon him) urged moderation and urged the reduced food and drink, he said: "The disbeliever eats in seven intestines and the believer eats in one intestine".

Moderation is to mediate between hunger and nausea by reducing the amount of food and drink, without detracting from the need for the body and work. This has many benefits, including body health, good understanding, strength of preservation, lack of sleep, and lightness of breath. Some wise men said: The biggest medicine is food appreciation.

On the other hand, the demand for food is too much, making food at the end of the day a goal, for which they make a lot of money, spend a lot of time in the markets, buying food colors. Those who have made their stomachs and their goals their pleasures and desires, with their money, are paid for desperate help or a poor subsidy, resulting in hungry stomachs and lost money.

Extravagance, wastefulness, luxury and boastful dangerous consumer behaviors that unfortunately entered people's lives and covered most aspects of life.

There is a variety of food and beverages in public invitations, events and wedding banquets that cost a lot of money, there are open tables with many varieties, for specific amounts per person and there are banquets dedicated in cases of death.

It is a wonder that a society that evaluates weddings, banquets and Muslim societies suffers from sorrows and mats, and as Ali ibn Abi Talib said, god bless him, his famous word: the reason for the poor hunger is enjoyed richly.

Too much food and drink leads to its storedness in the body, turning it into flesh, fat, fat and belly, which is the result of many of its actions and activities, saying: if the belly is full, intelligence is gone.

Omar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah blessed with him, famous words and wisdom: beware of a full stomach, because it is a role to laziness over prayer, harmful to the body, and you have to be economical in your food, , it is the healthiest of the body, stronger than worship, and a person will not perish until his lust affects his religion.

It is funny to say what Maslamah ibn Abdul al-Malik of The Romans king replied, asking: What are you being the fool of you? Maslamah said: Who fills his belly from all that he has found.

Farkad said to his friends: If you eat, they will drink the buttons on your circles, and they will be small, and they are chewing, and they suck water, and no one will take it, and he will not be able to visit him, and he will eat every one of his hands.

The doctors agreed that the head of the disease introduced food to the food, and said: The most ills are generated by curiosity and food supplies.

The ranks of food and drink (food) as divided by Ibn Qaym al- jawzyah in his book (Prophetic Medicine) are three ranks: the order of need, then the rank of sufficiency, and finally the rank of the plethora.

In Ramadan households' expenses are increasing to cope with consumer ism, shopping and high spending, as sleep turns to day, eating, visiting and roaming the streets.

And going to parks to the night, and the individual consumes in the meals (Iftar) and (Suhoor) times more than what he consumed in three meals before the onset of Ramadan. Until it became common in the evenings of the month of Ramadan, the large number of emergency cases due to overeating on Eftar tables.

The problems and dangers of individuals and families of our time, who are gasping for a tradition of throwing some of them at parties, costing events, going out to restaurants where tables are open, and overeating.

In conclusion, I say:

Moderation leads to economic savings in the lives of the individual and the family and to financial and commercial power in the life of the state and the nation. Allah almighty saying "those who, if they spent, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes) " [Al-Furqan: 67].
