Undercover Economist

Economic reading (7)

Book: Undercover Economist

Author: Tim Harford.

Reading:

In the introduction to this book, the author says: This book tells you how economists see the world. In fact, someone may be sitting next to you now and you do not know it is there, the average person when he looks at an economist does not see anything unusual. In the eyes of economists, ordinary people seem to be out of the ordinary. What does the economist think? If the question concerns you, then what is his answer to it? Why should you be interested in this question?.

You might think enjoying a foam-covered cappuccino cup, but the economist sees you and cappuccino as players in a delicate, complex game with signals, negotiations, power struggles and battles based on savvy, not violence. The winners of this game receive huge prizes, some of those who have participated in the effort to get the cup of coffee you are now drinking get a lot of money, while some get a little money. Our economic informant can tell you who will get what, how and why. I hope that after you have finished reading this book, you will be able to see things in the same eye as the economist, but please buy the book first before the storeowner kicks you out.

Now here's undercover economist looking out the window and taking a hard look at the traffic outside, some people see traffic as just a disturbing fact of life, the economist thinks about the contrast between traffic chaos and smooth traffic within the library, so we might learn something from the library that makes it prevent traffic jams.

While economists think about what is going on around them all the time, they do not just focus on domestic issues at home.

Maybe an undercover economist looks like someone behaving as if he knew all about everything; however, it actually reflects the clear ambition of economics to understand human behaviour as individuals, partners and competitors.

The author says, "My goal in this book is to help you see the world as the economist sees it. I will not tell you about interest rates or the vagaries of economic activity, but I'll reveal the puzzle of used cars. We will also address important issues such as how China recovers a million people every month from poverty. It will also address less important issues, such as how you can save money in the store. It's like the work of undercover investigators, but I'll teach you how to use the investigative tools used by the economist".

I hope that by the end of this book you will have become a smarter consumer, daily life is full of puzzles that many people do not realize are puzzles, so I hope you see the thrill of these daily life secrets.
